As a result Infinite Media is listed among those businesses certified as being fully compliant with any and all aspects of the Privacy Shield Framework. That listing may be viewed here.

The Privacy Shield framework is administered by the International Trade Administration within the U.S. Department of Commerce and meets the requirements established by the European Commission to oversee and protect the transfer of personal data and information between the EU and the U.S.

The advent of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May, 2018, plus the gathering momentum behind the protection of personal information in the U.S. and around the world has provided the impetus to seek and obtain Privacy Shield certification.

Privacy Shield certification is not mandatory, and is far from automatic. It is a statement of principles and reassurance of trustworthiness on the part of a business that chooses to meet the strict requirements for certification. Once an eligible organization makes the public commitment to comply with the Framework’s requirements, the commitment becomes enforceable under U.S. law.

There are 23 Privacy Shield Principles that must be met to achieve certification. In sum they specify the responsibilities of data processors and handlers regarding the transfer of data between the U.S. and member states of the EU. They include clear descriptions of how – and if – data may be collected and offer clear opportunities for opting out of such collection, transfer and use, plus data subject recourse for complaints regarding such activities, information distinguishing between personal and non-personal data and data subject rights regarding those distinctions.
